A Rhythm-Filled Journey of Sound and Movement

Step Into Rhythm. Dance Through Time.

About the Program

Our Tap Program is a joyful, rhythm-filled journey that builds strong technique, musicality, and self-expression. From the first shuffle step to intricate rhythms, tap dancers at WiLoKi discover how to turn their feet into instruments and tell stories through sound.

We offer tap beginning with our Jazz/Tap Combo (Level 1) classes for ages 4–6, and continue with Levels 2–5 for ages 7 and up. Each level grows with the dancer, introducing new techniques and styles while reinforcing confidence and clarity in sound.

🗓️ Two-Semester Season Structure

At WiLoKi, our season is thoughtfully divided into two semesters—each with its own unique focus and energy.

  • Fall Semester: Skills-Focused with Creative Projects

  • Spring Semester: Recital-Showcase Focused

This structure gives students the chance to grow their abilities and creativity in the fall while preparing for a polished stage performance in the spring.

🕰️ Fall Semester: The Tap Time Capsule Project

During the fall semester, tap dancers take part in a special creative journey:
🎩 The Tap Time Capsule

This project-based experience immerses students in the vibrant history of tap dance, divided into three 6-week segments. Each segment focuses on a different decade of tap, offering dancers a chance to learn styles, routines, and history while growing their skills in fun and meaningful ways.

Segment 1: The 1920s–30s – The Jazz Age

  • Tap routines inspired by Vaudeville and early Broadway.

  • Foundational technique and joyful rhythms.

Segment 2: The 1950s–60s – Hollywood’s Golden Age

  • Big musical numbers and expressive choreography.

  • Influenced by tap legends like Gene Kelly and Ann Miller.

Segment 3: The 1980s–Today – Funk & Rhythm Tap

  • Modern, syncopated sounds and expressive movement.

  • Celebrating innovators like Gregory Hines and Savion Glover.

Each 6-week segment ends with a mini in-studio showcase for families to enjoy, with the final segment featuring a holiday-themed performance with lights, costumes, and fun celebration.

🌟 Spring Semester: Recital-Showcase Focused

In the spring, our focus shifts to preparing an exciting tap performance for the WiLoKi Spring Recital-Showcase. Students learn a fully choreographed routine that highlights the skills they’ve developed, while learning stage presence, transitions, and teamwork.

This semester emphasizes:

  • Clean sounds and clarity.

  • Confident stage performance.

  • Expression and timing in group choreography.
